Technology in action – SARA Project Update by Johnny

This week the SARA project has been utilising the wonders of CNC fabrication in anticipation of the move of our prototype, as well as a demonstration for how the final product will be created.

CNC is the acronym for “Computer Numerical Control” which refers to the idea of controlling machine tools via computer.  As mentioned before, our modular design concept has been meticulously designed in CAD format enabling us to email our designs to a fabricator who is then able to chop out our designs in many different materials if we wish to an extremely high tolerance value.  If you think of how Ikea furniture is flat packed, we are able to produce our designs in much the same way out of far higher quality material and at a fraction of the cost.

When we combine this form of manufacture along with our spatial scanning pipeline, we are able to provide custom fitting solutions for SARA to sub-millimetre accuracy.

The upshot of this is that no matter what size or shape of room you have, we will be able to provide a fitted SARA solution to your building or property without the need to knock down walls or have to use what is called “wet-trades”, things such as block work, concrete, grout, mortar, painting and decorating or plastering. All Images © Smart Alternative Reality Area Ltd
