Spitfire Project Update 30.8.19

This week has seen the fuselage “undressed” as the skins have been removed for painting. This will also allow easier access to the cockpit area for the installation of the controls.

David has been busy riveting the multitude of stiffeners and angles to the skins before they go away.

The engine mount is making good progress with the main horseshoe assembly nearly ready for paint before riveting up. The quest for the remaining missing parts to complete the whole assembly goes on. The wings are progressing, the main area being concentrated on is the “ D” box assembly or the leading edge. This will soon go for paint in its component form before being set up in the jig to await the skins.

Lastly we fitted the equivalent of a “1940’s” iPod in the form of the original radio set which is very big and very heavy – how technology has changed! All Images © Parnall Aircraft Company Ltd
