This week has seen a lot of skin and cockpit component work happening here in the workshop. Laurent has continued his long but successful slog of skinning the static fuselage and it really is looking great. It is really obvious that we are producing a Spitfire now!
David has started to dress the cockpit interior, with the mounting brackets being made for the undercarriage selector unit, airscrew control unit and trim wheels for the elevators and rudder. To help fabricate these brackets, the relevant components that are destined for the flying project have been pressed into service, acting as jigs.
Meanwhile, Paul has been busy building up the supplied set of parts for the replica undercarriage selector unit. This is a very basic set and has required the machining and fabrication from scratch of various components but the detail that is being added will mean that even though it won’t be functional, the finished article will be difficult to distinguish from the real thing at first sight.
Over in the wing shed, Chris and David have been making adjustments to all of the ribs to ensure correct fitment and Murphy has continued to impress us by fabricating various ribs and other shaped components
