Spitfire Project Update from the Parnall Aircraft Company Ltd

Yet another busy week for the Parnall Aircraft Company Ltd as last Friday saw the electrics installed in the wing workshop, enabling the compressor and ring main to be pressure and leak checked ready for use. Since work resumed on Tuesday (after a nice bank holiday), Chris and Murphy have been busy transferring the extensive range of holes from the Wing Spars to the Web sheets.

Murphy has also been making joining plates to attach the web spars together also. A challenge in itself as each of the folds are at different angles to each other, let alone the datum line. Never one to shy away from a challenge mind, Murphy has done a great job and they are a perfect fit.

Meanwhile, in the main workshop, we have seen the delivery of a set of sheet metal hand rollers to add to our growing range of tooling needed for the project. David collected these last week once they were purchased and has then made them ready for use. Murphy and Lawrence have already started using them in anger helping to give shape to some skin panels for the static.

David and Lawrence have also continued with fitting items to the static fuselage such as the radio tray, access panels, and even started on the flare gun tube mount. Laurent has continued with fitting skins and has also fabricated new support angles for the forward lower longerons.

Paul has continued his work on the engine mount, and Tim along with his work in the office has fitted the lower engine mount fittings.
